GBR/CAA New Pilots Open Day

Hosted by BRCMAC The committee and members of the BRCMAC have kindly offered to hold a GBR/CAA New Pilots Open Day on Sunday 14 September 2008

The idea of the meeting is to give new pilots with an interest in aerobatics flying a taste of competition in an informal and friendly gathering. F3A pilots will be on hand to give advice and guidance and the emphasis will be placed on the use of 'normal' club sport aerobatics aircraft.

More information will follow once a date has been agreed. GBR/CAA Web site - http://www.gbrcaa.org/

Hire of Equipment

The Area are the proud owners of both noise measuring equipment and a frequency scanner and clubs within the Western Area may hire either by arrangement with the Area Committee.

Due to the value of the equipment a deposit is required. The deposit would usually be in the form of a signed cheque which will be held by the Area Treasurer. The deposit will be returned on return of the equipment in good order. The deposit required for each item is £150 for the noise measuring equipment and £50 for the frequency scanner

Clubs wishing to use the equipment will be required to collect and return the equipment from the current holder - details from the Area Secretary. There is no time limit for use of the equipment but clubs should return the equipment within a reasonable time. This notice is to remind Area clubs of the facility.

Examiners Workshop/Achievement Scheme Training Day 2005

Dodgy Handshake

A brilliant day enjoyed by all. Many thanks to the Bristol Radio Controlled Model Aircraft Club for hosting the event. Hopefully we will hold more events next year.

Left - Pete Spurway and John Harris exchange dodgy handshakes - the accepted method of smoothing your way to a helicopter 'B' certificate. Pete is receiving the hallowed piece of orange paper (on right) and John is dishing it out. Full report and pictures from the meeting coming soon. Watch this space.

Silent Flight Achievement Scheme

I am sure that the Western Area Committee will forgive me for hijacking a small area on this web site.

As some of you may be aware I have been recently appointed as the Silent Flight Achievement Scheme Controller

It is regrettable that the SF Achievement Scheme seems to have lost momentum over recent years and I can report that in 2007 there were only 14 'A Test' passes in all disciplines compared to 754 'A Test' passes in fixed wing (power) alone!

It is my intention to redress at least some of this imbalance by holding a series of meetings to boost awareness and Examiner participation, BUT I need your help!

SIMPROP SOLUTION - 2.5M SPAN

Simprop Solution

The Frome MFC have agreed to host a SF (Electric) meeting on Sunday 31 August 2008 but we need more clubs to host similar events.

If you think that your club are able to offer help then please contact me in the first instance so we can further discuss the format of the meeting. I am looking for clubs to host SF (Electric), SF (Slope) and SF (Thermal) meetings.

The first discipline is fairly easy for any flat field club to organise but the other two are more specialist so it would require the cooperation of more 'specialist' clubs.

You can contact me by email - sfcontroller@bmfawestern.org.uk or by telephone - 01373 301291 or you can contact me via the BMFA Office -

BMFA, Chacksfield House 31 St Andrews Road Leicester LE2 8RE

PLEASE GIVE THIS REQUEST YOUR SERIOUS CONSIDERATION

There are no excuses for not showing off your planes now that digital cameras are virtually free with petrol. Send them to me in any format, we can even deal with good old fashioned prints.
