Wing Servo Connectors |
|
|
|
|
I use Multiplex 'green' connectors when
fitting two servo's in the wing of an aircraft. The advantages are the speed of
connection and it is impossible to connect the servo's incorrectly. I fit the
female half of the plug to the receiver and the male half to the wing servo's.
The downside is that the small gold pins can break through constant use.
To combat this I wrap the connector with
'Selotape' to leave a 1/4" overlap on the connection side. |

|
Fill the overlap with five minute epoxy.
To help the epoxy fill the voids warm it gently with a hot air gun. Leave the
epoxy to set and then remove the 'Selotape. |

The resulting plug is very robust and it
is almost impossible to break off a pin accidently. |

Remote Glow Clip |
|
|
This tip was sent to me recently by Kees
Blokland of the Warminster & District Radio Control Flying Club. A cheap
and effective alternative to proprietory remote glow clips - |

|
|
"For many a year I've been searching for
the ultimate glow-plug clip. I usually have a setup where I can not easily get
to my plug. (Actually, I'm lazy and use an on-board glow-driver).
On 2-stroke engines, the plugs are
normally mounted at the center of the head, standard plug-connectors stay
connected without too many problems. However, most 4-strokes have plugs at an
angle and usually deep inside the head. The standard connector will not hold.
Last week, during another long drive home, it finally dawned on me. It was my
Eureka moment. And it's so simple I'd like to share it. The picture says it
all: "

"Start with a steel clevis (Kwik-Link). Remove
the pin. Heat the ends till red-hot, and let it cool. Bend the ends inwards,
file a little notch in the ends to fit the plug, solder a bit of wire on the
end, voila, instant clip, which will never let go of the plug. Add a bit of
fancy heatshrinktubing, and some siliconetubing to prevent damage to the wire
and you are done. " |
